ADB to grant loan of Rs 1,200 crore for reconstruction of Uttarakhand

A loan agreement to this effect was signed between the state government and the ADB in Dehradun on Wednesday with Chief Minister Harish Rawat expressing hope that the funds received from the institution will add momentum to the efforts to rebuild devastated infrastructure, especially roads in affected areas. Time-bound implementation of identified projects will be ensured with the funds received from the Bank, Rawat assured ADB chief Takehiko Nako when he met the Chief Minister at Bijapur state guest House after signing the MoU. Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar later said that the funds will be spent on rebuilding 2,400-km of roads, repairing water supply lines in 10 townships, rehabilitating and restoring tourist infrastructure damaged in five districts including trekking routes. Besides all this, the funds will also be used to construct 50 helipads, heliports and helidromes for relief and rescue operations in case of a natural calamity in future, he said.
