Dehradun, a capital city of Uttarakhand situated in the Northern part of India. Dehradun is called a beautiful town that is located in the Doon Valley surrounded by the Shivalik Hills, a mountain range of the outer Himalayas. The Doon city is world famous for its natural scenic beauty, which includes some visually attractive landscapes and enjoyable climate. For the last few decades, the city has been growing as a strong financial market, which proved very helpful in the growth of Indian Economy and its development. Although the city has developed in a rapid manner, but it never left the purity and simplicity what it is known for.

Dehradoon is known for its tourists who come from here and there to visit the beautiful places of this eye-catching city. The city has a wide range of tourist places which catch the attention of the people. The city is connected to the popular Himalayan tourist destinations like: Mussoorie, Nainital, Haridwar, Rishikesh, and many more. Other than there are many beautiful places which still need to explored and visited by the tourists. The name of the city is made up of two words: “Dehra” and “Doon”. The word Dehra is derived from the word “dera”, which means camp and the word Doon is used for valley. Dehradun is not a permanent capital of Uttrakhand. On 9th November 2000, it was announced the 27th state of Democratic Republic of India and Dehradoon is declared the provision capital of Uttrakhand.

Dehradun is a well-known city for its high-class educational centers. The city is called the education hub of the country and it is voted the best city for education by most of the students across the country. If we talk about the culture, Dehradun is a part of Garhwal region and therefore, the culture is mostly based on Garhwali tradition. The city is also known for its architectural work. Many old buildings, which were designed at the British rule, are still there. Some old buildings like: Clock Tower, Morrison Memorial Church, Forest Research Institute, Indian Military Academy, etc. are the best examples of old architectural work.

The Doon School is a boys-only independent boarding school in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India. Founded in 1935 by Satish Ranjan Das, a Kolkata lawyer, the school is relatively new among Indian boarding schools.

It hosts some of India’s best schools and training institutions of national importance such as the Indian Military Academy. It is also home to national foundations such as the Ordnance Factory Dehradun and Opto Electronics Factory of the Ordnance Factories Board and the Defence Electronics Application Laboratory and Instruments Research and Development Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organisation which maufactures products for the Indian Armed Forces. Other institutions include the Indian Institute of Petroleum, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Survey of India, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Wildlife Institute of India and the Forest Research Institute
