Bhageshwar name has been derived from Byagreshwar. Byagra is tiger and Ishwar is God therefore the name says Tiger God.

The town is situated on the confluence of Gomti river with Sarju river which is a tributary of Sharda or Kali river and joins Kali at Pancheswar.Bageshwar is most famous for Baijnath Temple devoted to God Shiva and famous for magnificent idol of Goddess Parvati and Pindari Glacier from which Pindar river flows and joins Alaknanda, after Devprayag known as Holy Ganga.
