The name Tehri has been derived from Trihari, signifies a place that washes away the three type of sins – sins born out of Mansa, Vachna and Karma or Thought, Word, and Deed respectively. Garh in Hindi means Fort.

Tehri Garhwal is one of the largest district in the hills state of Uttarakhand, in India.Its Aministrative headquater in New Tehri. It is surrounded by Rudraprayag district in the east, Dehradun in the west, Uttarakashi in north and Pauri Garhwal in the south.
